My poor little Phoebe

It seems like I am always writing posts about a new pet or creature we try to help and then a while later I write about how they died. And that's what happened to Phoebe a few weeks ago. I was really upset and didn't feel like writing this post for a while but I guess I'll do it now.
Phoebe's death was a 1 in 1000 chance. I had left them out in my room (I thought it was completely rat safe, no holes they could get through and nothing they could chew on and get poisoned by) they were running about in there all day since it was a weekend and I went up every once and a while to check on them. I hadn't actually spent any time with them that day other than saying "hi" ever now and then so when I went up at about 8:00 pm I was going to spend a few hours giving them treats and watching them play. I found Phoebe stuck in a small trash can behind my chest of drawers, her head was pushed between the two and she had died not long before from lack of air. What are the chances that she would get up there, go inside the trash can (it was the first time the can had ever been on top of the chest of drawers!) and knock it over edge in just a way that she couldn't get out?
It was really sad but I have learned never to let rats out unsupervised for more than a few minutes.
Now on to a lighter subject. Since you should NEVER have one rat by herself I had to get Wren a friend as soon as possible. Mainely Rat Rescue didn't have any girls at about the same age and near us so I found someone who had a accidental litter from one of her girls (Frosty Paws) and adopted one of them. I made sure that she wasn't breeding for money before I got the baby. The little one is SO cute! I named her Lark Phoenix Tinypaw, and changed Wren's name a bit: Wren Phoebe Scuttlebutt and even though there is no point to it I changed Phoebe's name to: Phoebe Jay Scuttlebutt.

I got to go now because my study hall is over. I'll put up some photos of Lark soon. SO CUTE!
Bye!
Claire
