Speaking of rodent-monkeys... Lark is so big! I think that if I have the choice I wont get 5 week old rats again. They are so hard to hold! Lark is so much more easy now that she is bigger and more tame. She is using the litter box right now. Good girl, baby!
I try to never take selfies, but I am telling myself that I was taking a picture of Lark not myself.
Lark likes hiding in my sleeve when something scares her. Here she is checking to see if it is safe for her to come out.
Wren loves exploring the book shelves!
Lark is looking a little derpy and Wren is looking a little evil. Not the best picture of them. Pink-eyed rats look evil when they eat like this.
Since rats are prone to getting overweight I am always worried about my girls. I often check them like this. Lark looks like a good weight in this photo.
Look at that belly!
My hood is also a safe place to hide.
Good news! I got a really big rat cage for x-mass from Bibi! It is big enough for five rats so Wren and Lark have enough space. I keep the small cage in Petersham and when we go there and I put my rats in, I always feel bad about putting them in a cage that I now feel is way to small.
I'll never give a rats ass. Just to cute to give away, aren't they?
Bad news! Wren is never going to be not sick. She has a lower respiratory infection that is not going to get better. I have to give both her and Lark a steam bath in salty mist everyday to keep the infection at bay. Don't ask me why this works. When the vet said why it made a lot of sense. When I try to retell it I could not understand what I was saying. I don't want to even try to write down why she needs to be misted. Anyway, the mist works and Wren is pretty healthy. I, on the other hand, have a sore throat that makes me not want to talk much.
Lark has learned two tricks. One is turnaround. The other is to lay on her back on my hand, really cute! Right now she is zipping around my room having fun, really cute!
Tinker is right now in one of her broody times. She laid two eggs and has two fake eggs that were already in the nest. We right now have chicken eggs in the house because Lark needs extra protein to grow big and strong. I took a white chicken egg and gave it to Tink. It was really funny to watch her try to stuff an egg 1/4 of her size under her for safe keeping. Doves are only supposed to have two eggs at a time, Tink had her two, the fake two, and was trying to sit on a chicken egg.
A video of my girls.
And another.
And another.
And another.
And another.
Since I am rambling in this post I will put these facts in here rather than find the right place for them.
- Lark is now the boss rat in the cage. Even though she is so much younger and still smaller she is the alpha (wolf pack rankings are used for a rat mischief).
- Lark gets nervous when Wren is not there with her.
- Anna and I gave Tinker a last name. Tinker La Stulta Kolombo. If you know Esperanto (Anna and I are learning it) or Latin you should be able to know what this means.
- Wren is really cute.
- I should be studying.
Goodbye!
