Watership Down by Richard Adams reviewed by Claire

I really like the book Watership Down written by Richard Adams which I just finished. Only a few books have I liked this much. I really enjoy stories about animals like White Fang and Call of the Wild and Watership Down. It is about rabbits who have to leave their warren because a certain rabbit had a feeling that something bad was going to happen to the rabbits that they stayed there. Only a few rabbits left and later on in the story you find out that the warren was gassed by humans so it was good that they left after all.

Half the book is based on finding a new home and the other half is about stealing does from the evil warren of Efrafan. I really couldn't put this book down when I was reading about those evil rabbits. Most of the rabbits of Efrafan didn't like being controlled by the chief rabbit. The chief rabbit is terrified of humans so he decided to make his warren hidden. He made all the occupants of the warren go out on shifts to eat and killed them if they tried to escape. The chief rabbit enjoys killing predators like cats, foxes and stoats. The good rabbits only fight a predator if they have to.

Watership Down is the name of the field they move to.  It had a strange ending where the main character named Hazel dies. But it isn't sad because there is a god rabbit that comes down and walks off with him. He died from old age and he lived much longer than most rabbits do.

Some of the names in this book I did not like so I substituted them in my head for similar sounding names. And I just skipped some of the names because they were just too long like Thethuthinnang
